Yes.  We will send them to you through our Learning platform called Teachable.  Subsequent to completing a module/s, there will be set times to access ‘live’ chats with the Senior Practitioner to ask any questions.

  • What course material will I receive?

You will receive access to the recording through Teachable  and a link to set up your own profile on this platform.  This is also where you can purchase modules or other packages of interest. We also provide additional readings, resources and templates that can assist you with the role and also your portfolio of evidence.

  • What will I receive after completing the 7 modules?

helpz will provide you with a certificate of completion of the 7 modules. These modules cover all of the knowledge capabilities for in the Core portfolio of evidence. This means you are well on your way to developing your portfolio of evidence for your self-assessment.

NB – the modules will have a questionnaire to return (and provided in the package sent) that will need to be returned to trigger the provision of the certificate/s.

FAQs about the role

  • What does a Behaviour Support Practitioner do?

Behaviour Support Practitioners work with children and adults who present with behaviours of concern.  Behaviour Support Practitioners collect data and information about the person, conduct interviews and observations and work with the person and their support network to establish underlying causes of the behaviour. Once those causes are known, the behaviour support practitioner will compile a report or construct a plan and develop strategies to assist in the reduction of and/or elimination of those behaviours, while also looking for ways to improve the person's quality of life and independence. Find out more on our Behaviour Support service page.

  • What age group can I work with as a practitioner?

Behaviour support is across the life span. We work with children right through to older adults with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities / dementia, etc.

It would be recommended that your caseload be developed around the age group you are most comfortable with. However, additional training can be provided if you would like to expand on your area of expertise.  helpz has access to a diverse range of skillsets within behaviour support.

The training program provides the principles and processes of Positive Behaviour Support under the NDIS and these can be applied to any age group.

  • What experience do I need to become a Behaviour Support Practitioner?

The pathway to be a Behaviour Support Practitioner has most success from applicants that have experience supporting people with a disability, currently work in a disability area, have a recognised relevant degree (such as Allied Health, Social Work, Teaching, etc) or present with an experienced or informed approach to disability and behaviours of concern.  We would welcome discussions with all interested parties to see how your experience may fit with the role.

  • Registering as a Behaviour Support Practitioner

In order to provide behaviour support to NDIS participants, Behaviour Support Practitioners must be registered with the NDIA and be linked to employment that has registration to provide behaviour support services.

Through the BSDP, our team can assist you with registering as a practitioner by supporting you with using the portal, developing a professional learning plan, a supervision agreement, and ensuring your resume reflects the values and roles of a practitioner.

Successful applicants to the NDIS will then be required to complete a portfolio of evidence within 12 months to demonstrate their skills and experience in the discipline. Our BSDP will support you to achieve this, and can provide long term support as you work through the various levels for Behaviours Support Practitioners.

    Those levels are:

    • Core Practitioner
    • Proficient Practitioner
    • Advanced Practitioner
    • Specialist Practitioner

  • Are there other expectations of the role?

In order to gain employment under the NDIS, you will be required to also have relevant Working with Children Check (WWCC) / Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) jurisdictional clearances, as well as a NDIS Worker Check. Generally, for this role you will also require a Driver's licence.
