Disability Supports for Older Australians (DSOA)

Occupational Therapy supports everyone through every age and stage of life.

At helpz, we are privileged to provide Occupational Therapy supports to older Australians living with a disability under the Disability Supports for Older Australians (DSOA) funding scheme. This ensures that no matter the age, we can continue to support our clients to live life with meaning and dignity.

For many of our DSOA clients this means ensuring we support safe mobility and transfers, safe eating and drinking, modifications or adaptation for continued independence or to make recommendations for the supports needed to engage in meaningful activity and maintenance of connection to family, friends and community.

Below are some examples of some disability supports some of our older clients might need.

Our clients often require specialised assistive technology to support their daily function. Have a look at some of the equipment we have assisted our clients to receive.

Gentle Boundaries for a Balanced December As we approach the year’s end, December invites a mix of celebration, reflection, and routines shifting out of their usual rhythm. For many caregivers and individuals with disabilities, this season can bring added sensory demands, social expectations, and emotional fatigue. Amidst the gatherings, gift-giving, and year-end deadlines, it’s important to remember that wellbeing is not a luxury - it’s the foundation that allows us to show up with patience, compassion, and presence. This month, we’re encouraging everyone to approach the holiday period with gentle boundaries, slower pacing, and intentional care. Whether you support someone with additional needs or you’re managing your own wellbeing on top of daily responsibilities, your energy matters. Saying no when needed isn’t a rejection - it’s actually a big yes to choosing balance, sustainability, and emotional safety.
